The Nerd in Me

Have I told you that books are a passion of mine? I heart them, swoon for them and can't imagine life without them. I can lose myself in books for hours at a time and a perfect vacation is me, by a pool, with an endless supply of books. Believe it or not, I started college with the intentions of getting a Masters in Library Science. Oh yes, my dream was to be a librarian. But then I got sick of school around year 2 and it was all I could do to just graduate with a degree. I changed my tune real quick about getting a Masters.

Needless to say, I have quite a few books. I try to purge every once in a while - usually when Mama Hen has a yard sale - but there's just some books that I can't part with. Unfortunately, storage for these books has been a dilemma for quite a while. I had this one bookshelf in my bedroom that was completely filled to capacity. Each shelf had books double-rowed and books laying on top of other books. It made me sad.

I also had this baby bookshelf in my sewing room where I kept Bible studies and commentaries. I'm almost embarrassed to show you this picture - it's terrible.

Jay and I looked forever for a really nice double bookshelf that wouldn't put us in the poor house but we were sadly not successful. I got fed up a couple of weeks ago and ordered two new bookshelves from Overstock. They came in last week and Hubs was sweet enough to put them together.

I ended up putting them in my sewing room and they went from this

to this

to this.

Next I moved the stuff from my baby bookshelf to the one in my bedroom. Better, huh?

I'm not gonna lie. I'm in love. And I'll admit it - I just go back there and smile. I'll leave you with this becauseI have felt this way so many times:

You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend. ~Paul Sweeney

Your shelves are awesome, I love them! I don't know about you, but I tend to buy books based on how pretty the cover is. Is that cliché or what???? But I'm such a sucker for a pretty book...

Oh, how I love to read. One day, in about 10 years when I have a free moment, I'm going to come over and beg you to let me borrow some of your collection.

My sister too has the love of reading. I myself, can not tell you the last book I read besides The Foot Book or The Potty Train book. Me and books just don't go together. Love the bookshelves, they look great. I know you are one proud bookworm

I used to volunteer in a library once. I thought about majoring in it too! I love books as well...although I'm not good at finding new ones. I always stick to my classics! I don't know if I'd consider you a nerd! Unless you have a secret dungeons and dragons passion?!
